Every 3 years, I am asked to present my flower arrangement at the annual Consulate General of Japan Year-end party. My turn had once again came this year.<\/p>\n
I wanted to showcase a “Tsuri-Bana” using Mangetsu (Full moon) container.
\nIt is a simple (Wabi Sabi) arrangement.
\nBut, the size is small, and I have to have something to hang the Mangetsu container.<\/p>\n
So, I decided to make a Byoubu (paper-screen room devider) Japanese screen with windows.
\nI had brought Japanese Fusuma paper with flower patterns from Japan, with which I made the two-fold Japanese Byoubu. It took about a week to make this byoubu from scratch.
\nThe windows are shaped in hexagonal shapes, indicating Ikenobo’s Rokkaku-do Temple in Kyoto, Japan, the originating place of Japan’s Ikebana flower arrangement more than 550 years ago in 1460’s.<\/p>\n
Because Mangetsu container is made of copper, I wanted to use a gold-colored container and a silver-colored container to complete Gold, Silver and Copper theme.<\/p>\n

I also made two flower decoration pieces on the reception desk.
\nThis one uses a plastic Christmas ball-shaped ornament as a vase, and a banana hanger as a stand. The top of the plastic Christmas ball was removed and the hole was expanded large enough to pour water in it and place flowers. I made additional holes near the top of the ball to put a fishing thread through so that I can hang the ball to the top of the banana hanger.

This one also uses a plastic Christmas ball-shaped ornament as a vase, and a paper towel holder as a stand. A steel plate was placed at the top of the paper towel holder to hang the Christmas ball.
